چکیده
ByJ. G. HUMBLE, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. T HE OCCURRENCE of petechial hemorrhages in the skin and mucous membranes is a well known sign in many hemorrhagic diseases and in other complaints. Little is known, however, of the mechanism by which they are produced or the exact segment of the vessel or vessels at fault. Histologic preparations show merely an exudation of red cells, sometimes of polymorphonuclear neutrophil leukocytes around the minute vessels in the dermis, the vessel walls themselves usually appearing intact. In the present investigations the formation of petechiae by the tourniquet test (capillary resistance test) in the skin of patients Suffering from various hemorrhagic diseases has been studied by capillary microscopy.

متن کاملDiffuse cerebral petechial hemorrhage in an 8-year-old girl with MRSA pneumonia and sepsis.
An 8-year-old girl in septic shock due to necrotizing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) pneumonia developed signs of end-organ damage, new right hemiplegia, and left gaze preference. Susceptibility-weighted MRI demonstrated extensive multifocal petechial hemorrhage preferentially at the gray-white matter interface due to septic microemboli (figure). Mechanisms of hemorrhage inc...
متن کاملPrimary angiitis of the central nervous system and silent cortical hemorrhages.
Primary angiitis of the CNS is histopathologically characterized by ischemic lesions and small petechial hemorrhages. Unlike CT or conventional MR imaging, gradient-echo MR imaging depicts these chronic petechial hemorrhages. We herein report the case of biopsy-proved primary angiitis of the CNS in a 42-year-old man; whom gradient-echo MR imaging revealed multiple petechial hemorrhages in the c...

ABSTRACT Background: High resolution CT scan has made early diagnosis of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) easier. Posttraumatic intraventricular hemorrhage has been reported to a greater extent because of the CT scan. Methods: 904 patients were admitted in the NSICU from March 2001 to March 2002 with severe closed head injury, of those only 31 patients with intraventricular hemorrhage (GCS le...
متن کاملPetechial and subcutaneous hemorrhage with blister formations in right upper extremity during cardiopulmonary bypass by axillary artery cannulation
A 72-year-old man underwent aortic valve replacement and coronary artery bypass graft using cardiopulmonary bypass with right axillary artery cannulation. After undraping, petechial and subcutaneous hemorrhage with blister formations were found in right upper extremity. Axillary artery cannula was considered to compress right subclavian and disturb venous return in the right subclavian vein, wh...
